i’m currently policy counsel for Free Press, where my work focuses on digital civil rights, surveillance, protest, and community resistance against industrial infrastructure – currently, data center construction in the US. i’ve been a visiting fellow at the critical infrastructure lab at the University of Amsterdam, a postdoctoral fellow at the Shorenstein Center at Harvard Kennedy School, and a senior researcher with the Tech, Law & Security Program at the American University Washington College of Law.
i’m also a documentary photographer and producer with a background in public media and factual streaming. my current documentary work focuses on the surveillance, policing, and prosecution of social movements in the US and heavily informs my legal scholarship. i produce and co-host the power on/power off podcast with Justin Sherman.
i organize locally with Courtwatch DC and the National Lawyers Guild. i currently serve as co-chair of the Mass Defense Committee for NLG-DC.
my recently published work can be found in The New Republic, The Guardian, Tech Policy Press, Slate, American University Law Review, Maryland Journal of International Law, The Progressive Magazine, and la Antología Judicial Ambiental 2017-2020. i earned my JD magna cum laude from American University Washington College of Law and my BA from Mount Holyoke College. i am not barred or seeking bar admission (and am always happy to discuss this choice with law students or recent graduates!)
my pronouns are she/they. when i’m not on the road with my partner and our dog, or curled up at home with a book (and our dog), you can probably find me outside with my camera or in some deep internet rabbit hole.
